List of curly hair products in India (for every budget)

One question I am very often asked by my readers is the curly hair products they should be using. Though I review many products that I use right here or mention them frequently on my Instagram page, I know it can be very confusing because they are scattered here and there. So here’s a compilation post for my curly hair product suggestions in India. These are products that either I love or my readers love.

One really important point is that no matter what products you use, if your curly hair routine is wrong or you are making any of these mistakes, you will not see results. So make sure your hair routine is on point 🙂 – My curly hair routine.

(P.S – I’ve linked a video of my curly hair routine at the end of the post.)

Though there are many types of curly hair products, these are the main categories. Let’s begin!

Shampoos for curly hair in India

If you have read this post – How to wash & condition curly hair, you would know that I am not at all particular about the shampoo that I use. Any decent shampoo will do the trick. I love my sulphates because they give bounce and volume. So I shampoo at least once a week. For other washes, I prefer co washing.

And there’s a big myth that a shampoo can make your curls look beautiful. I’ve had many readers ask me what shampoo they should use to get beautiful curls. The answer is – Any! Because shampoos only clean. Conditioners and creams are what determine the appearance of your curls, along with the right routine.

Anyhow, here’s a list of shampoos that I use (but you can use any):

  1. The Body Shop Ginger Anti Dandruff Shampoo
  2. Head and shoulders
  3. Pantene Lively Clean Shampoo – silicone free shampoo (perfect for clarifying for those of you who don’t use silicones)
  4. Fabindia Herbal Daily Use Shampoo – sulphate free, silicone free
  5. Jason Natural Dandruff Relief Shampoo – sulphate free, silicone free

Here’s a List of Sulphate free shampoos in India (with reviews/purchase links) . You can also check – 4 ways to make your shampoo less harsh – The best alternative to sulphate free shampoos

A Note!

  • These products may or may not be available easily in India. I usually buy my stuff off of amazon or through someone coming down from the US. The amazon link to buy the products are there in their respective reviews.
  • The products are not numbered in the order that I like them – it’s just a random order
  • I will keep updating this list as and when I try new products 🙂 If you have tried some product other than these and loved it, do leave your comments so that more curlies can benefit!
  • The prices keep varying on amazon – so the tables may not be accurate always – do check before buying!

  1. Enliven gel is pretty good and silicone free! Also, other silicone free conditioners are loreal smooth intense conditioner and giovanni range.
Kinky curly knot today is a silicone free leave in 😊

  2. Hey when we apply curl creams can we skip gels for styling. Are curl creams enough to hold the curls like gels ? And at what stage creams are applied in reference to LOC ?.

    1. Divya, some creams have polymers and may be enough for light hold. Check the ingredients. Usually creams should be followed by gels if you really want strong hold. LOC stands for liquid-oil-cream so cream would be the last stage 🙂

  3. hey anjana , doing a great work !! i started to cherish my curls for the first time after looking into your blogs. Thank you so much 🙂
And i have a silly doubts …. i bought ogx coconut curls and also bblunt gel , but i am not sure which one to use and when ?
I wash my hair with sunsilk shampoo and condition it with bblunt intense moisture conditioner and t-dry my hair and then scrunch with mythic oil .
sometimes i just use only the tres semme mousse …

    Madhulikka 🙂

  4. Just read your blog. Had a tough time figuring what to use and what not to.. i am guessing this article will help me in a much better way.
Could you also suggest shampoos as well? (Preferred below Rs.500)
Just going to start your prescribed curly hair routine (praying this works for me)
And also thank you so much for giving people like me (who just can’t get a hold of their curls) an insight to these products. 😊

  5. Hi Anjana,
i too have curly hair but its protein sensitive, i have no idea which products to try. i have even ordered Shea butter from US but not much use. moisture just evaporates. to feel less dry on my hair i end up putting coconut oil. ur list looked very helpful. however i wud like a suggestion can u suggest products for extremely protein sensitive hair.. shampoo, conditioner, leave in, serum, curl enhancer, g anything that u know. i have hairfall so cant keep trying product. your response is highly appreciated.

  6. Hi Anjana, i ordered the products except kinky curly its heavy on my wallet:(. do have any alternative.. i read beautiful reviews about it but right now i cant affOrd. please suggest.

  7. Actually i hv to buy the conditioner, leave in, and the gel so i need advice from you.. i am really frustrated with my frizzy curls. Please suggest me the best ones i will try to bear the expense

  8. Hi anjana i have a curly hair and i wanna get my hair cut…could u plz suggest a perfect cut and i also wanna knw how to style my hair and wt products shud i use…plz help me out as i am trying to embrace my curly hair.

    1. Yes you can. But if you are using one that has silicones, remember to use a sulphate shampoo atleast once a week.

  9. Oh My God !
You are a savior of curly hair. Love your blog. Thank you, you are the first Indian woman I came across online who blogs about how to take care of curly hair. Thank you much.

  10. Hi Anjana.. Have u tried “Loreal PRofessional Techni Art Spiral Splendour Nutri -Control Cream”. Please could you give a review of this cream. This was suggested to me by a hair stylist for curly hair.

  11. Hi Anjana! Thanks for giving detailed information regarding curly hair. I have gone though the beginners list of products and I am going to start my curly routine soon. I have curls between 2-3, on coarse hair. Need your help to select gel to start with. No limit on budget. Please suggest a gel which is best to your experience. Thanks a lot dear.

      1. Thanks a ton dear. One more thing, I colour my hair regularly, need touch up once in a month. Please suggest what care should be taken while coloring my hair, so that I can get the best out of my curly hair routine.

          1. Yes I use loreal color casting. I will check for olaplex.bso you mean ammonia free colored hair need deep conditioning?

    1. A leave in conditioner hydrates and nourishes hair. A cream also does the same but may also have curl defining or enhancing properties. Have you seen my video (routine)? There I show how I leave conditioner in my hair and apply cream.

  12. Hi Anjana,

This is a boy query 🙂 kindly guide.
I am looking for a chemical free (or products with minimal chemical), which can help me keep my hairs shine, hold a bit and gives them some volume ( at least don’t weigh them down) and need not be washed out in the night.

My hairs gets curls if I let them grow beyond 3-4 inches especially at their ends. They become frizzy and dry if I don’t oil them after shampoo no matter whatever their length is. Honestly speaking I guess I am looking for an alternative to daily oil.
    Thanks in anticipation!

  13. Hey hi… I have been viewing your blog for few months and it’s been a really very good help for me. But right now I started using this product wow! Shampoo and conditioner. Just wanna know what do u feel about this product!? Can u plz put a review about this product too. Thank you.

    1. The shampoo is sulphate free but the conditioner has silicones. There can be build up because sulphates are needed to remove silicones.
