List of Sulphate free shampoos in India (with reviews/purchase links)

Even though I personally love my silicones and sulphates, there are some curlies who benefit from following the CG method and using sulphate and silicone free products. So here is a huge list of Sulphate free shampoos in India. Being Sulphate free, they are all CG friendly/CG approved shampoos. I will keep updating it as and when I get new information 🙂 Also, since brands keep changing their formula every now & then, it’s always good to check their latest ingredients list to make sure they haven’t included any sulphates lately.

A note : I am only including sulphate free shampoos that don’t have any silicones, because to prevent silicone build-up on hair, you need a sulphate shampoo and that defeats the purpose of going sulphate free! I have also not included shampoos that say they are sulphate free but don’t have a full ingredients label. If you have decided to go sulphate free, remember that you need to also exclude olefin sulfonate from your products. Here’s why – Why some sulphate-free shampoos are harsh. And so this list should ideally be called ‘List of sulphate, silicone and olefin sulfonate free shampoos’. If you are going sulphate free, remember that none of your products should have silicones – or else there will be build up.

  1. Wow!!!!!!! awesome post. . . I have seen soo many curly website all they talk about co-wash & conditionerssssssssss. . . I find it weird to just use conditioners. u wrote about shampoos. well done for such a awesome post.. . .love u

    1. Hi Sameera, if you click on the links of the WOW shampoo, you will be taken to – you can check the ingredient label in the pictures 🙂 These 3 varieties are sulphate free. Why the doubt Sameera?

      1. Hie again anjana! I’m glad you replied. I checked WOW shampoo ingredient label already. But i’m quite confused cause i found over exaggerated positive reviews and mysterious negative reviews there.

Anyways, i’ve silky straight but thin or fine hair. My hair are not falling that bad but scalp gets quite dry and flaky whenever i shampoo. What shampoo would you recommend me for hair growth and also softness?

  2. Hi anjana! As I said I’ve thin hair, I’m afraid if cowashing would damage them. Yes I do condition my hair most times after wash. and also I’m applying aloe vera gel from the leaf only to my scalp and that helps me to heal my dry scalp.
I read your post, and I oil my twice a week, detangle with care, and do all. But my hair never grow.
If you say it’s genes, then both of my sisters have long and thick hair haha!
    Thank you for talking!

    1. Hi Sameera! Even in siblings, the genetic makeup is not the same. Has your hair stopped growing suddenly or was it this way all the while? If it’s the former, there may be some underlying cause like stress, hormonal changes, side effect of medicines etc. If it’s the latter, then I guess that’s just the genes 🙂

  3. Himalaya baby shampoo is also sulphate silicone and paraben free!
It’s affordable and easily available too 🙂
BTW thanks for the lists it’s so hard to find cg friendly products here. 😥

    1. Hi Ankita 🙂 the Himalaya baby shampoo label doesn’t have the full ingredients list right? How are you sure then?

  4. I have tried the ‘SLS and Paraben Free’ range of hair products from Khadi Naturals and it works very well for me. Since most ingredients used in their haircare products are indigenous, I believe they produce best results for gorgeous desi girl curls

    1. Hi Preeti, like mentioned in the article, I haven’t added Khadi products to the list because their labels don’t have the full ingredients list 🙂

  5. Hi Anjana,
I have silky straight and fine hair.
My hair are falling real real bad and also the scalp remains quite dry, flaky and itchy all the times. What shampoo would you recommend me to reduce my hairfall? The hairfall increased as I moved to Noida (the water seems to be extremely polluted here). Thanks for the help!

  6. Hi I also have curly hair but ..gets oily too often …I need a shampoo that ..does not harm my scalp strip more oil plz help and recommend can I use baby shampoos ?

    1. These sulphate free shampoos are mild. Make sure you have no silicones in your conditioner or leave ins if you are using only a sulphate free shampoo. Otherwise you will have buildup.

  7. I have wavy (2A ) type of hair, which is prone to frizz and dryness and have noticed increased hair fall in past few years (after I moved to Chennai from Delhi). I have itchy scalp, with mild dandruff and since I live in Chennai, my scalp sweats too much (I don’t have itchy and dandruff issue when I am in Delhi or anywhere apart from Chennai -_-). Can you suggest me some suitable shampoo? I was planning to buy, OGX Intensely Invigorating Eucalyptus Mint Shampoo as this was the only shampoo I could find free of SLS, Paraben and Silcone, within my budget.

  8. Hi,
I stay in Pune, priorly i didnot face major hair issues when i was in Lucknow but now past 2 years my hair is becoming thin n dry.I use grapeseed oil for oiling which i do twice a week by mixing it with alovera gel.Shampoos i have tried include Tresmme; sunsilk; hydrating macademia oil shamloo and khadi but nothing worked out well…Any suggestions would be highly appreciated for using shampoo or natural hair treatment

  9. Why you have not mentioned wow apple cider vinger shampoo in above list ?? I am currently using it and it is also sls free ? I have doubt that you have mentione three from same brand and leave only one why ?

    1. Hey Anjali..that’s because it has a silicone PEG 12 dimethicone (it is water soluble though). As I’ve mentioned on top of this post, I’ve included only those without silicones and olefin sulfonate (so that it helps strict CG followers) 🙂

  10. Any review about wow apple cider vinger shampoo ? It is also sls free . Why you have not mentioned it in above list .

  11. Hi, I wanted to try the first suggestion from you. Lovea nature shampoo. I observe though there are no silicone n sulphate it still contains few not so good ingredients like peg-150,Polyquaternium-7 etc. I m confused to buy r not. Can u advice. Also what’s up r opinion on Bon organic shampoos

    1. Why do you want to avoid those 2 ingredients Chaitu ? Regarding Bon organic shampoos, they don’t have the full ingredients list without which I cannot comment on them.

      1. I am trying to check each and every item on the list for sulphate free shampoo from the past few weeks to find a good one to settle on(of course that too after I read this blog suggesting not all sulphate free are true). In this course of searching few sites state that few ingredients mentioned in lovea shampoo are low to moderate hazard. That’s why I asked the question. Not only those two ingredients mentioned in my comments but others are there too. I thought u would know better than me

        1. These 2 ingredients are widely used in many hair care products. Can you please link the article that says these are harmful? Moreover low to moderate hazard ingredients are green flagged (meaning they are used widely). Also parabens are high hazard flagged – but there are mixed opinions on their use. It all depends on what you want to use/avoid.

  12. hey anjana, thanks for this awesome post. ordered wow organic shampoo, hope it’ll be good

Ive started to grow out my hair and its become curly. can you suggest any shampoo to straighten my hair?
    (male, 23)

  13. Hi Anjana, Thanks for the list ! I am on a hunt for a good sulphate free shampoo from a long time.. .! I Tried many shampoos but none suited me. I have wavy thing air with oily scalp. I am now using lovea menthe shampoo for oily hair which is suiting me. Also one more recommendation from my end is soul tree shampoo. They claim it’s sulphate free. Also can you give me any review on Mama Earth shampoo and conditioner ? They also claim that they are sulphate and paraben free.

    1. Thanks for the suggestions Devina! I’ve added Soul Tree shampoos to the list. Mama Earth list the ingredients as “Key” ingredients which usually means the full ingredients list is not given. But looking at the list, it does look like a full list. Since I am not fully convinced, I will not be adding those to the list 🙂

  14. Hi Anjana
I am hunting for a SLS and paraben free shampoo for my itchy flaky and dry scalp. My hair are wavy. Can you suggest a good shampoo and conditioner. I am totally confused.

  15. I checked their ingredients it has Sodium Lourayl Sarcosinate . Is it a type of sulphate? I am not sure.
Also did you check Just herbs shampoos they are also SLS and paraben free. Also what about ogx maracoon argaon oil shampoo is it sulphate free ?

    1. Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate is not a sulphate. Can you post the ingredients of the Just Herbs one? I have mentioned about OGX shampoos in this post itself – why they are harsh. Have a look at the post again 🙂

  16. I came across ur blog n got inspired to follow your routine. I hv wavy hair. I bought a wow organic virgin coconut oil conditioner for cowashing thinking it is silicone free. Later when i read the ingredient list carefully i realized it has dimethicone. I hv been using shampoo n conditioner by a brand called Bon Organics which are sulphate n paraben free. Pls suggest if i can use this one or should i just chuck it n waste my money 🙁

  17. Hi anjana, surprised to see you added mama earth shampoo which doesn’t have full ingredients list. I have been using lovea nature shampoo but seems health n glow stopped importing that brand and its not available anywhere now. Searching for an alternative can I go with justherbs shampoos? Thanks

      1. Hi anjana. I bought mamaearth shampoo. FYI.. As I mentioned all the ingredients they mentioned in their site are as mentioned as ‘key ingredients’ on the actual bottle which I bought from mamaearth. Not sure what their full list is. I could not attach a image over here

        1. I had asked them the same and the told me it’s because they may change their formula. But considering that they have mentioned even the surfactants and emollients(and not just “herbal” extracts) in the key ingredients, we can believe that it is indeed the full list as mentioned on their website.

  18. Hi Anjana,
    I just loved ur curls… <3 <3
I want those curls too but I rebonded hair. I have 2c-3a type, high porosity, coarse, dense hair with itchy scalp. I am beginner in CG routine. The big list cofused me. Please suggest some shampoo and conditioner. Right now i m using Tresemme keratine smooth.
    Thank you.

  19. Yeah. I have gone through ur story. I m some confidence now. Thanks. 🙂
Need some assistance on ‘Protein sensitive hair’
Low porosity or high porosity are protein sensitive in general? or differs from person to person?

  20. hey, i have very delicate hair……. i am using dove oxygen moisture shampoo… but i wanna shift to a SLS free shampoo. i have never tried one earlier .. so i am really confused…. have gone through many sites but i cannot decide what to do……… can you suggest me a good shampoo….. i have a medium budget….. plz not a costly one plz
