Loreal Mythic oil review

I heard rave reviews about how argan oil is marvelous for hair and so I bought a full bottle only to be disappointed by the fact that it was too oily for my hair. And oil makes my hair frizzy. Mythic oil was the perfect answer to that. Because, though it calls itself an oil, it is not. It is a serum that contains all the benefits minus the oiliness. Yippee!

Update : 23 Jan, 2018 – I no longer use silicones because I figured they weigh my hair down.

Loreal Mythic oil review

Ingredient Analysis:

Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol – Non Soluble silicones , C12-15 alkyl benzoate – Emollient Ester , Argania spinosa oil – Argan Oil , Oryza sativa bran oil – Rice Bran Oil , Benzyl alcohol – Preservative , Limonene, Hexyl cinnamal, Coumarin, Linalool, Butylphenyl methylpropional, Hydroxycitronellal, Amyl cinnamal, Geraniol, Alpha-isomethyl ionone, Isoeugenol, Benzyl benzoate, Cinnamyl alcohol, Citronellol – Fragrances

The 2 oils come in the 1st five ingredients and so these are major constituents of this serum :). Non soluble silicones are non greasy & light and it gives a wet & silky but not crunchy look to the hair. No drying alcohols, no humectants. But the fragrance list is weirdly huge though!

Performance

I apply this to washed, tee-dried hair and scrunch my curls for beautiful definition. Here is a post on how I use this product – How to apply products and scrunch curly hair. And here is a post with my full curly hair care routine – My curly hair routine .

Pros & Cons

+ Makes hair ultra-soft, velvety, bouncy and smooth (just like its texture :-D).

+ Define curls beautifully.

+ Controls frizz and fly-a-ways very well.

+ Imparts shine, gloss & hydration to curls.

+ Doesn’t cause crunchy curls.

– Has to be teamed with a good hydrating conditioner. With an average conditioner it does not do all the above to the extent required by curly hair.

In short:

I just loooooooooove this product. Even as I experiment with other products, this is always in stock at home. I am already on my 5th bottle. My Holy Grail Hair Serum without doubt 🙂 Here is a List of curly hair products in India.

Hi, very nice review…planing to buy it…but does the hair stay soft frizz free for a day or for a longer time?because even after seting my hair they get frizy after an hour

Hi Aditi, my hair stays frizz free for almost 2 days.

Thank you will buy it then 🙂 and can you suggest a good hair mask or deep conditioner

Most OGX masks are great. Some other good masks are by Wella and Mythic oil. I have reviewed a few here – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/category/reviews/

L’Oreal is tests on animals. Terrible company!

everyproducts you use it off are soo costly..college students like me cant afford..why cant yu suggest some economical ways fo students like us

Can one cowash after oiling or do u have to give either of the two up?if yes, does giving up oiling affect the growth rate of your hair?

Hi Shivani, I’ve not had success with cowashing after oiling – my hair remains very oily 😐 You can give it a try and see if it works for you! It’s not mandatory to oil before co washing – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/oils-and-curly-hair-benefits-types-and-ways-to-apply/

Hey..Anjana…my shampoo and masque are sulphate ..silicone and paraben free..so. I can’t use this mythic oil as it wil not get cleaned with my shampoo…am I right…what is the solution..

Hi Harshi, Yes you are right! You can either use a sulphate shampoo or not use Mythic oil 🙂

My shampoo is wella elements renewing shampoo…please suggest me one masque and one styling product..to go along with it…my scalp becomes oily and hair are dry..

Is that shampoo sulphate free?

Ya it is sulphate and paraben free..mentioned in your list of sulphate free shampoos..

Then you can use any silicone free mask and styler. Here are a few options – Silicone free hair styling products , Silicone free conditioners in India.

Hey..thanks Anjana..ur blog indeed very informative..and u have awesome hair..went thru your list of styling products…I can’t apply gel..any serum which is silicon and paraben free u know of..thanks a lot…

Why can’t you apply gel Harshi?

Hey..Anjana…thanks for reply..have always used serum only..no cream ..no gel…gel needs proper application way..the way u have shown in that..I don’t think I can do that well..also my face skin is very sensitive..don’t want to apply much styling products on hair..so need ur suggestion for one gud styling product to be applied after sulphate free shampoo and conditioner/ mask…..thanks a lot..Also..if possible let me know ur email id..wil send u my hair photos….

Gel/cream/serum has to be applied in the right way for optimal results Harshi. And I apply all of them in the same way. Please send me the photos at info@curlsandbeautydiary.com 🙂

Okay..thanks a lot

Hey..Anjana …have emailed you my hair pics..please recommend me products…..thanks..

Is it important to use a sulphate free shamboo while using mythic oil?why?

Yes, because mythic oil has silicones which can build up without sulphates

I bought mythic oil shampoo and hair masque because I read somewhere that they smell good but in fact they smell horrible. After this experience I am scared to buy the oil also. I wanna know what kind of smell does it have. I hope it doesn’t smell like Garnier hair colour.

It does have a really strong smell. I don’t mind it. But I cannot say if you will find it too overpowering.

i didnt know that while using mythic oil we have to clean our hair with sulphate shamboo!

Hey Anjana..
When do you apply serum to your hair?Because as far as I know, serum has to be applied to damp hair.. And according to the CG routine, you are not suppose to touch your hair when it’s drying..

Hi, European Unie has banned recently the silicone cyclopentasiloxan because it influences hormones in human body.

Hi Anjana is morocco argan oil good for curly hair? As I’m using CG shampoo and conditioner and because of that I can’t use mythic oil.

I don’t suggest this anymore. You can find my suggestions here – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/beginner-friendly-simple-curly-hair-starter-kit/

Hi Anjana I am using the bblunt curl cream as a leave in at the moment, post conditioning and before I apply my flaxseed gel. But a lot of people have recommended this oil to me. Can I use the mythic oil instead of the bblunt curl cream? Does it work with the gel?

You can if you want to Sue, just note that I personally have stopped using silicones

Yes I later saw your update on this post. Thank you
