When I first realized that shea butter made my curls look beautiful, I was on the quest to find products in India with shea butter. Sadly there were none. I remember searching amazon’s international site and seeing Cantu products filled with shea butter. This was about 2 or 3 years ago. Finally I laid my hands on one 🙂

Cantu Shea Butter Conditioning Creamy Hair Lotion Review (4)

CG Friendly: Yes
Texture: When I hear the word lotion, a liquidy flowy image comes to mind. But this product is thick and creamy. It’s not runny and is viscous to apply onto hair even when it is wet. Not as thick as a hair butter but definitely thick for a lotion.
Smell: I love almost all shea butter products. They smell soooo good. This lotion is a mix of shea butter and some tropical fruity smell. Love it.
Packaging: A sturdy really tall plastic bottle with a press button opening.

Results of Cantu creamy hair lotion on my hair

Performance:

Here is a post on how I use this product – How to apply products and scrunch curly hair and here is a post with my full curly hair care routine – My curly hair routine .

+ It’s got so many great ingredients! Shea butter, coconut oil, avocado oil, almond oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, macadamia oil. Whoa.

+ Provides intense nourishment, shine and moisture

+ Imparts curl definition and coiling

+ A little goes a long way

– If you go even slightly overboard, it can make hair very greasy and can weigh down hair.

In short: There are some really good oils and butters in Cantu Shea Butter Conditioning Creamy Hair Lotion and they make my curls so happy that this is one of my favourite hair products for my curls.

Thanks for this review. Between the Conditioning Creamy Hair Lotion and the Moisturizing Curl Activator Creme, which is better to prevent weighing down of the curls? And how do you ensure volume at the roots especially above the forehead? clips?

The lotion is definitely lighter though it’s easy to go overboard with this as well. So use a tiny amount. I plop my hair, diffuse upside down. You can check this article – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/10-ways-prevent-crown-lying-flat-curls-roots/ 🙂

Thanks Anjana. I read the article and will use the advice to avoid flat roots. I am gonna start taking better care of my 2b curly hair. I use Dove oxygen moisture shampoo and conditioner and now considering buying the Cantu Shea Moisture Conditioning Creamy Hair Lotion and Devacurl ultra defining gel. What do you think?

Good choices I guess. Of course unless you try, we can’t say anything 🙂 The gel is a great choice though!

can cantu shea butter hair lotion be used for protein sensitive hair

It has amino acids but it is in negligible amounts. You can use it depending on how sensitive your hair is to protein

Can this be used as a leave-in?

What is the difference between cantu curl activator and the natural creamy lotion? Which is suitable for 2a?

Lotion is lighter. Both are heavy for 2a

Hello Anjana..
Do you buy your products from Amazon India. I’m afraid there are a lot of fake products there. What do you think??

I ALWAYS buy from amazon. I have never got a fake one – always check for seller rating and reviews before buying

Thank you so much for the response.
Really appreciate your efforts towards your readers..
I’ll take your word for it and buy from the links that you provide in your reviews 🙂

Hi im currently in the transitioning phase, my curls are healthy but they loose shape easilylike they are 3a curly when wet but turn soft 2b-ish when dry..which product will help me retain their shape better?

Hi! First of all, man thanks for your effort in sharing your curly hair routine.
Should this be used instead of the gel? So Shampoo, conditioner, leave-in condition and then this lotion? Also the curl activator creme and the custard are similar to this (ie. to be used instead of the gel?)
Thanks.

This is instead of leave in Kakisha

My hair is extremely dry and is of type 2c/3a. I need loreal strong gel for strong hold. Which leave in/cream suits for this type hair? What about cantu?

Hi, my hair type is similar to yours but I can’t get that much volume and I can’t afford to buy the Cantu cream now. I am looking for substitutes. Do you have any suggestions? I’m looking for a good quantity of product under Rs500 that does the same job as Cantu. Also, do you have any opinions as to how to increase volume?

Thank you I will surely look into it.

Hi Anjana. Hope you are doing fine. I know am posting a question on a wrong post, but Need a suggestion from you regarding a light and non sticky oil for SOTC, could you please suggest any?

Hi Ashwini, argan or jojoba are good options

Hi, I am afraid to use Cantu as I’ve heard Shea Butter is not good for acne and can cause pimples. Can you please suggest me an alternative for wavy hair.

Also, is Schwarzkopf leave in conditioner good?

Hi Medha – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/as-i-am-leave-conditioner-review/
I haven’t tried the Schwarzkopf leave in.

Hi! I’ve read in some reviews by girls with 4c hair that it elongates curls. I have 3a/3b hair. Could you tell me if this would make my curl pattern loose or would it define it?

It doesn’t elongate my curls at all. But of course, different hair reacts differently 🙂
