I had seen a lot of beauty bloggers endorsing Plum beauty and skincare products on Instagram and it did catch my eye. Since they had a CG friendly haircare line, I decided to try out their products.

It consists majorly of colour, followed by a really mild cleanser, an emollient that can add softness to hair and hydrolysed protein that may help with damaged hair. I would have preferred the cleansing agent above the colours but other than that I am loving the list.

CG Friendly: Yes
Performance:
+ Lathers well
+ Cleans well
+ Doesn’t make the hair feel dry or straw like. Hair feels soft post use.
I absolutely love this shampoo! It’s my current favourite shampoo in India.

The conditioner is missing an important ingredient in the 1st 5 ingredients – a cationic surfactant. If you read this post Ingredients to Look for in a Conditioner, you would know that a cationic surfactant is essential to calm down frizz and help detangle hair or give the desirable “slip” that we all like in conditioners. Also shea butter is too high up on the list. Though the rest of the ingredients look good, this factor is a make or break.

CG Friendly: Yes
Performance:
+ If left on hair for a considerable time, it can help melt tangles.
– The lack of a cationic surfactant(mentioned in the Ingredient Analysis above) makes the conditioner very tacky to use. There’s absolutely no slip and detangling is a nightmare.
– Since shea butter is high up on the list, the conditioner feels very oily on use.
– The texture is quite runny which makes it difficult to easily apply onto hair.

Plum Olive & Macadamia Rich Nourish Conditioner is a total miss for me.

  • Brassica Campestris/Aleurites Fordi Oil Copolymer – emollient, softens hair
  • Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter
  • Cetostearyl Alcohol – Emollient
  • Ethylhexylglycerin – Emolleint

Ingredients after the first 5 to 8 ingredients are in negligible amounts and can be ignored if you are not trying to avoid any ingredient in particular – Read the Ingredients List, Not the Product Claims.

The ingredients list looks quite good. Shea butter is quite high on the list.

CG Friendly: Yes
Performance:
– In spite of the great ingredients list, the mask didn’t have enough slip. It might be because of the copolymer or shea butter being higher than the usual alcohol emollients. The texture was silky and velvety, but it took me considerable effort to detangle my hair.
-/+ Hair felt a bit oily, which might be a positive for those wanting intense hydration
– Smells of rancid oils which stays on for a few hours.
Since this is a mask and not a daily conditioner, it can be used following a good conditioner for some intense deep conditioning.

Have you used Plum hair products? How do you like them?

Blog Comments

Hi Anjana.I have been following your blog for a while.First of thank you for the amazing posts.Very grateful..Am a beginner Curly girl.My hair is between 3 B and 3 C and mixed porosity(I think).I currently use loreal ever curl shampoo and conditioner followed by shea mositure restorative and protein leave in and auntie Jackie’s curl elongation gel..Day 1 is not bad but as my hair dries,it tends to frizz.By 2 I have lost definition mostly..what am I doing wrong?

Anita, What’s your hair length? And how much of each product do you use? Would be also good to read this https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/16-mistakes-might-making-curly-hair-routine/

Hi Anjana,it is a little below the shoulders. I use a lot of product and i end up having to wet refresh everyday.

Anita, please send me some pics of your hair on Instagram (and please give me the full context of the conversation we had here)

Hey, something really weird about the shampoo. The order of ingredients mentioned on their website is wrong and its first few ingredients are actually gentle cleansers, with colours being the last ingredient. You can see this on product images by customers in the Amazon link you’ve provided. Just thought I’d let you know. 🙂

Oh wow, no idea why they would do that. I have seen the opposite happen – where the bad ingredients are put at the end 😀 Thanks for letting me know, Surbhi 🙂

Hi Anjana,

I live in Hyderabad, recently I’ve started loosing alot of hair, the water here is hard water.. please suggest which shampoo and conditioner to use to stop hair fall

HI , i guess this shampoo is really bad
i have done keratine to my hair
i feel my hair looks life straw strands super dry n frizzy
they conditioner is of no help either
i tamed my hair with argon oil , only then i could get away with frize
i think urs is a paid review
cz how can one lie so easily

Hi Kiran,
1) Keratin treatments damage and dry out hair. That could be why your hair is behaving so, and not because of the shampoo.
2) Not sure if you read the post properly because I’ve mentioned that the conditioner is a total miss for me (meaning I didn’t like it).
3) Not all products suit everybody. What I like, others may not and vice versa. It’s got a lot to do with each individual’s own hair properties.
4) If I do sponsored posts, it will be clearly mentioned in the post.

Hi Anjana,

Plum has launched a new hair mask which is CG friendly. I have low porosity fine 3a hair. I live in humid region and my hair is really dry. Can I use this mask and how frequently?

Hi Khyati, didn’t understand what you mean by can you use this mask 🙂

I was asking if I can use the mask for my hair type?

New plum conditioner

Hi Anjana based on the above ingredients list do you recommend me to use it on my low to medium porosity, fine, 3a hair? Since, it has shea butter, considering I have very dry hair, would you recommend me to use it?

Hi Khyati, if you have had bad experiences with shea butter before, I would skip it. Else you would need to experiment – there’s no hard and fast rule to determine if or not a product will suit you. It should depend on many factors and personal experience.

Hi Anjana, am beginner to cg approach, am using st botanica moroccan argan shampoo and conditioner in normal routine, planning to use Arata gel alone on top of it since I have 2b/c curl. Will that do? Please suggest.

Am planning to start with clarifying shampoo once, conditioner and then after a day or two cg friendly shampoo, conditioner and gel stated above

Also let me know if I can apply gel to scalp as well?

Sounds ok LM.
Scalp as in crown area or the skin on the scalp?

Hi. I really love your post. The way you interpret the entire review is great.
